Idiots on boats

I was thinking of conferring on almost everyone in this video a collective Doofus Of The Day award, but I think the title of the video is sufficient.

I think I've been on the same water as some of them . . .

Labor day is the Day Of The Dead, or at least, the Day Of The Dying, on the water. Every year someone within a few miles of me either narrowly misses a meeting with St. Peter or does, in fact, make it a group event for the fools who were his passengers.

Labor Day 2012, anchored more than a mile from any other vessel or structure, I had a beautiful new sailboat sail directly under us. Destroyed the boat, and damn it, almost scratched my paint.

You gotta admit...the hand grenade bit was kinda bad-ass.

And the one at the end with the police boat hitting the cabin cruiser...that took place here in Washington DC a couple of years ago at the Georgetown Waterfront. The cabin cruiser sank and MPDC was on the hook for the repairs.

I must admit, I kept wanting to know what happened next - a couple of the incidents were potentially really bad - speaking as the guy as the guy who has been involved in picking up the pieces, as well as in his generous share of capsizing, sinking and other minor maritime disasters, stuck throttles, motors cutting out at precisely the wrong time (and yes, Paul Dammit, I have a rec skipper's ticket, and I agree with you. And I was stone-cold sober every time)
